This is a series of insights gleaned from surveys and interviews with the most effective churches of the Georgia Baptist Mission Board in reaching and keeping people.
10 Things That Make These Churches Different, (part #8)
#3 – Question #41: In the past 12 months has your church conducted a training opportunity for the members to be equipped in how to share their faith?
Observation: In the fastest growing churched we found that 75% provided some type of training to equip their members in
sharing the gospel message. This is one of the major factors that separates these churches from all others! In previous studies we found that less than 40% of all churche do anything to equip their members in evangelism. Most GROWING churches do something to train their members in sharing their faith while most PLATUEAED or DECLINING do nothing to train their members in evangelism.
The next question I always get is, “What should we be using?” First, there is no magic formula that will fix your church, class or group. If you are hoping for a “quick fix” then you will be disappointed. Making disciples and equipping people to share their faith takes times. Second, there is no “right” plan, strategy or resource to buy at the bookstore. Sure it must be theologically and biblically correct; and there are lots of those out there, but the determining factor is not what you use but rather that you are using something to equip your people in witnessing. For more information on resource to equip your members in evangelism please visit evangelism.ga Our evangelism staff (Larry Wynn, Randy Mullianx and Scott Smith) will be glad to assist you. Don’t forget that the fastest growing churches equip their people in evangelism and most importantly they expect their members to be sharing their faith.
